September 25/09 11:09 am - The 4th Annual Big-O: Women's Mountain Bike Charity Event

On Sunday, September 27th, the 4th Annual Big-O: Women's Mountain Bike Charity Event will be happening at the Ganaraska Forest.  Each year in the fall, women of all ages grab their bikes, and head into the woods to raise money and awareness for Ovarian Cancer Canada.

“Our participants are women of all ages and skill levels, from the novice cyclist to the mountain biking enthusiast,” says Jen Haslett, Event Coordinator, “It's a great non-competitive atmosphere, where women get together to enjoy the fall colours and grind up some dirt!”

Each year, thousands of new cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed in Canada. Since symptoms are non-specific, ovarian cancer is usually detected in its later stages, making it the leading cause of death due to gynaecological malignancy. Yet, research studies indicate that most women cannot identify the subtle signs and symptoms of the disease. “It is our goal to help change this” says Haslett.

Registration is open to everyone, and participants or donors can visit www.thebig-o.ca to find out more about the event or pledge support for your favourite rider.

About the Big-O Women's Mountain Bike Charity Event
The Big-O Women's Mountain Bike Charity Event was founded by Jen Haslett in 2006 in memory of her sister Susan, who was taken by the disease at the age of 39. Susan was a great advocate of women in sport, and always encouraged women to jump in and try something new, even if it seemed overwhelming.  Ms. Haslett is an avid cyclist and triathlete, with a goal to introduce women to the fun and adventure of mountain biking.  For more information, visit:  www.thebig-o.ca
