December 9/09 13:12 pm - Jeanson's Doctor Faces Suspension

Posted by Editoress on 12/9/09

The disciplinary committee of the College of Physicians has imposed a one year suspension of the medial licence of Dr. Maurice Duquette, the doctor who prescribed erythropoietin (EPO) to some of his patients and athletes, including former cyclist Genevieve Jeanson .

This case has dragged on for seven years and seems to finally be coming to a conclusion.

Dr. Duquette now has 30 days to appeal the decision. Otherwise the suspension will begin on 7 January.

The disciplinary committee of the College of Physicians also imposed a fine of $ 24,000 as well as restrictions on his professional practice. He can not prescribe certain substances, including EPO and cannot treat athletes.

Last spring, Dr. Duquette was suspended for life by the Canadian Center for Ethics in sport because he prompted Genevieve Jeanson to use EPO. Jeanson's former coach, Andre Aubut, was sentenced to the same penalty.

Dr. Duquette is still awaiting a decision in another case involving him before the disciplinary committee of the College of Physicians. This time, it is his professional practice as an orthopedic surgeon at the hospital Fleury.
