Do you enjoy being on your bike, teaching others new skills, and are hard working, enthusiastic, patient and have great people skills with an interest in leading and teaching large groups? If this describes you, then read below!

Cycling BC is currently hiring mountain bike instructors from all over the lower mainland to deliver, lead and teach our beginner level “Learn to Ride Mountain Bike” curriculum to youth, adults and women during spring 2010.

Responsibilities:
• Provide an atmosphere for participants to fulfill their full potential in a positive environment in where students are encouraged to try their best
• Deliver all programs and activities in accordance with the Cycling BC Learn to Ride program
• Be a role model embodying both the professional and ethical standards that are key to the program as an ambassador of Cycling BC
• Prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate programs in accordance with the curriculum
• Complete and remit course paperwork, including attendance, medical waivers, consent forms, and evaluation forms
• Work to maintain the health and safety of all participants during classes with awareness of accident and incident reporting procedures
• Conduct risk assessments and manage the actions of participants, the bikes, and the training areas in both on and off road locations
• Ensure that the program is conducted in harmony with the community where it takes place, particularly with respect to other non-participant users of the venue
• Provide guidance to participants on relevant mountain bike matters
• Report all course information concerns, issues, and feedback to the staff at Cycling BC
• Supervise, provide feedback to, and work in partnership with a volunteer assistant at each course

Essential Requirements:
• Be able to teach and motivate groups and individuals of all ages in a manner that demonstrates leadership, initiative, and enthusiasm
• Have experience of, and enjoy working with people, including an outgoing personality and well developed interpersonal communication skills
• Be highly organized and able to work independently with little direct supervision
• Be enthusiastic about cycling, with an understanding of cycling as a sport, means of transportation, leisure pursuit, and healthy form of exercise
• Be a regular, competent cyclist
• Demonstrate the flexibility to adapt to the diverse environmental situations and changes that may arise
• Be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Be available to conduct cycling courses at various locations around the lower mainland commencing in April 2010; depending on arrangement and availability you will instruct for a minimum of eight weeks, one day a week  for 2-3 hours per class
• All instructors hired must complete the training program provided by Cycling BC, on Friday, February 26 (evening) and Saturday & Sunday February 27 & 28 (day) and Sunday March 21 (afternoon)
• All instructors must have a current first aid certificate, or complete an introductory first aid course prior to commencing employment in April 2010
• Undergo a criminal record check prior to commencing employment in April 2010

Remuneration: Competitive hourly wage ranging from $18 / hr - $21 / hr, paid on a course-by-course basis (approximately 20 – 25 hours / course including preparation time).
