Clara Hughes, the Winnipeg-born cyclist and speedskater, will be invested today as an Officer of the Order of Canada by Governor General Michaëlle Jean at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
Hughes is already a Member of the Order, and is being promoted to the higher grade because of her work with Right To Play, the organization that brings sport to children in developing countries.
Hughes retired after winning a bronze medal at the Vancouver Games, her sixth Olympic medal (two bronze in cycling, four (gold, silver and two bronze) in speedskating). She is the only athlete in the history of the Olympic Games to have won multiple medals in both Summer and Winter Olympics.
