December 1/10 10:49 am - CCA Partners with B2ten to Develop Women's Track Program

The Canadian Cycling Association is pleased to announce that it has entered into a public - private partnership with B2ten that will focus on the women's national track cycling program.

The initiative will deliver unique support in the areas of performance analysis and testing, while also providing the team with the training resources required to underpin top performances at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

"The expertise and resources being brought to bear in Women's Team Pursuit allow us to create a training environment for the National Team that was not previously possible," said Jacques Landry, High Performance Director and Head Coach of the CCA.  "It is now up to the athletes and professional staff to take advantage of what is being made available to mount a serious challenge in London."

Six athletes, who are not currently on the national team, have been identified and targeted through initial off-track testing and assessment. These athletes will participate in a series of training camps in Los Angeles in December and January to determine the extent to which they are able to perform on the track.  Under the partnership, the Canadian track cycling team will train in Los Angeles until the summer of 2012, as international calibre facilities do not currently exist in Canada.

"Track cycling races are typically won by hundredths of seconds or mere millimeters," said Anne Merklinger, Director of Summer Sport for Own the Podium. "Lending this additional support will provide Canadian athletes the resources needed to gain on the world's best and, ultimately, bring home medals for Canada."
