December 5/11 12:45 pm - Juniors Dominate at Forest City Velodrome GP

The eighth race in the FCV winter series is in the books, with a group of Juniors leading the way going into the Christmas Break.

The events on Saturday night (December 3rd) had a very good balance of abilities sprinkled into each of the categories. The FCV youth racers kicked off the night with a very spirited 15 lap Scratch race; the top three riders were Ian Currie, Lucas Taylor and Logan McIntyre - all three kids are on the Team Attack Youth Cycling team.

One of our new young riders, 15 year old Sarah Mason (Invita-FCV), had a great night of racing, capturing the C group Scratch race, C group Miss & Out. She competed in her first "B" Madison and was very competitive finishing third after being off the front for most of the event.

As we moved into the more experienced and faster divisions of racing, Junior Daniel McKenzie-Picot (coachchris.ca) seems to be coming back after a lengthy injury, winning the B Scratch race after bridging up to the leaders from half a lap down with ten laps to go. McKenzie-Picot also won the Unknown Distance and finished fourth in the "B" Madison.

The "A" division has been very strong over the last five races and last night was no exception. Several FCV Juniors were on hand to jazz up the proceedings, they did not disappoint. Will Simonds and Adrian George (Invita-FCV) teamed up to finish first and third respectively in the opening Scratch race of the night; the two were split by veteran track racer Dave Byer (Jet Fuel), who just piped George at the line.

Brian Trafford (Ottawa) took the honours in the very exciting Miss & Out after Ryan Aitcheson (Panther) was DQ'd for rough riding; the officials met well into the early hours on Sunday debating the disqualification (yes, adult beverages were involved...).

One of the cool stories during the evening of fast, close and exciting racing was one our Women racers, Stephanie Bester (coachchris.ca), who stepped up into the wolves den and came up with a podium in the Elite Miss & Out, plus was in the hunt in the Unknown Distance and held her own in the "A"Madison.

Racing continues after Christmas on Saturday, January 7th. The Thunder Pro Series of races will be featured, as well as a number of sprints to prepare the Cadets and Juniors for the up coming spring season.

Many new programs are starting at the FCV, from Track 1 to advanced skill sessions, to upgrade everyone's abilities on the track. The very popular Christmas camp at FCV is filling up fast - do not be disappointed, register today.
