The Para-Cycling Track World Championships have begun in Los Angeles, California with two medals for Canada..

 

Marie-Claude Molnar won the bronze medal in the 500mTT in the C4 category. 

 

Daniel Chalifour and Alexandre Cloutier (pilot) won the bronze medal. in teh 4k Men's B (tandem) pursuit.

 

Robbi Weldon and (pilot) Lyne Bessette finished 8th in the 3 km Women's B (tandem) pursuit

 

 

UCI Para Track Worlds has Strong Canadian Flavour

 

In addition to the strong presence of Canadian athletes competing at the 2012 UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships in Los Angeles, California beginning today, many Canadians are holding key administrative roles at this major track cycling event for cyclists with physical disabilities.

 

Louis Barbeau, Director General of the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes, and President of the International Cycling Union (UCI) Para-Cycling Commission, is the key mastermind behind the event. Barbeau has been a long-time and strong advocate of para-cycling in Québec and in Canada, and has played an active leadership role in the growth of para-cycling on the international scene.

The President of Commissaires Panel, or head official, for the event is Louise Lalonde, a UCI and National commissaire in Canada. She is leading the crew of commissaires regulating this World Championship event. Lalonde is one of two Canadian UCI International Para-cycling commissaire. 

 

On the timing front, Sylvain Richard of Richard Sports Services Timing, a Quebec-based firm, is the key timing consultant overseeing the accuracy and integrity of the results posted by the athletes in the competition. Richard has been the main timing consultant for the UCI Para-Cycling World Cup last season, and will continue his timing duties this upcoming season.

 

Hélène Soulard is also present as the head of the UCI Anti-doping procedures, and Dr. Pierre Blanchard is serving as the Official UCI Doctor. Terrie Moore is the Chief Classifier.

 

Finally, but not least, Randy Ferguson is the voice of these World Championships, acting as the main public announcer and entertainer. Ferguson, a well-recognized voice in Canadian cycling, is also known as the voice of the Canadian Cycling Championships, the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne, the UCI Para-cycling World Cup in Baie-Comeau, the Mardis Cycliste Lachine and many more international sporting events in Canada.
