March 26/12 14:05 pm - Bike Recycle and Exchange Event - Calgary

Ecole St. Cecilia School (610 Agate Crescent S.E., Calgary - west on Southland Dr. past Blackfoot Tr) is hosting their third annual bicycle recycle and exchange event. Families are encouraged to donate to the school any bikes, or parts that they have outgrown and have the opportunity to get another bike for the upcoming summer that will fit better.

Those donating a working bike will receive a $10 voucher (per bike) that can be exchanged towards a different bike. All bikes will be sold on Saturday, April 21st between 9:00am and 1:00pm for $20 (maximum one voucher per bike).

We are also opening up our collections this year to include used bike parts. This is a great way to make some space in the garage or shed, and know that you have helped your friends and community by reducing the need to purchase a new bike when your family has one that is no longer needed. It also encourages the reuse of our bicycles and helps ensure that kids have easy access to healthy activities.

Bicycles and parts that do not find a home during our event will be donated to other organizations or recycled. We are accepting all bikes from tricycles to adults. Bike drop offs will be accepted Thursday, April 19th and Friday, April 20th from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm each day. If you are unable to attend but would like to donate please contact for possible pick ups.

Our event last year was such a great success all around. We had 148 bikes donated and over 400 people in attendance in 2011, and were able to find homes for all but 5 of the bikes. Which in itself is great but caused us to fall short in our endeavours to also work as a bike drive for other organizations like Bikes for Humanity.

So this year we have stepped thing up, and are also asking for people to donate non-working bikes and used parts, in hopes of having more to offer to these other groups. We are also allowing our supporters and organizations that we are helping to set up info tables (or tents if the weather is cooperating) at the event to help increase their exposure. Last year we had 148 bikes find new homes, this time we hope for 200.
