May 9/12 17:27 pm - Race Timing Technicians Needed - Cycling BC

Posted by Editoress on 05/9/12

Are you interested in travelling across the province and being a part of the fast-paced and exhilarating sport of Cycling?  If so, we want to hear from you!

The ideal Race Timing Technician candidate is someone who has background knowledge in the sport as a rider, parent or family member of a rider, or as a volunteer (e.g. race organizer, course marshal, coach, official). Some basic knowledge about the various types of bike races that are typically held in BC is an asset, as is basic familiarity with computers and office software such as Microsoft Excel.

Remuneration:
While this is primarily a volunteer role, trained and certified Race Timing Technicians will be paid an honorarium of $150/race day (for each assignment, technicians are paid for 1 travel/setup day and for each race day).

Timers are also paid mileage at $0.37 / km, and accommodation is arranged and covered by the race organizer if the race is more than a 150 km round trip away (or if it involves a trip on BC Ferries).

To Apply:
If you would like to apply as a Race Timing Technician, please send an e-mail containing the following information to Nicole Rochefort, Communications & Events Coordinator at Cycling BC (nicole@cyclingbc.net) Applications are due no later than 4 pm Tuesday, May 22 2012. Include in your application e-mail:

• A brief summary of your background in the sport and your experience with computers
• A summary of any other relevant skills (education, recent work history) or a recent resume
• An estimate of your availability on weekends during spring and summer 2012

Timing system training will be conducted in early June 2012 and is mandatory for all Race Timing Technician candidates (Cycling BC may be able to help with travel cost for those who live some distance away).

New timing technicians will also serve as an assistant timer at an early season race in order to gain field experience.

If you have any questions prior to applying, please contact Nicole Rochefort via the contact information below.
