June 6/12 16:59 pm - Sylvan FamilyFondo for Kids at Prospera Valley GrandFondo (BC)

On Sunday, July 22nd, after the GranFondo and MedioFondo riders depart Fort Langley, BC, on their epic journey across the Fraser Valley for the inaugural Prospera Valley GranFondo, it will be the kids turn at the start line for the Sylvan FamilyFondo.

The Sylvan FamilyFondo is a kid-friendly three kilometre cycling event that takes place within Fort Langley for children ages 6 to 12. Participants, with their parents or guardians at their side, will get the full “GranFondo” cycling experience. The route is flat and offers absolutely no interaction with traffic plus, at the 1.5 kilometre point, an aid station will provide the young athletes with the fuel they need to reach the finish line. Volunteers will ensure all of our young cyclists are safe, supported, and having fun. The Sylvan FamilyFondo not only celebrates family, but the exciting sport of cycling!

“Sylvan Learning is a perfect partner for this great family event,” says Jeffrey Hansen-Carlson, President, Canadian Velo Event Management Society. “Their commitment to helping children succeed academically compliments our desire for kids to have fun on their bikes while learning safe riding skills.”

“We’re excited about the Sylvan FamilyFondo because it incorporates family, fitness, fun, and Fort Langley,“ says Kathleen Casprowitz, CEO, Sylvan Learning. “It’s important that we do things together as a family and learning about the birthplace of British Columbia is a great way to spend a day together. There is going to be lots of activities for Sylvan FamilyFondo participants and their families like face painting, balloon animals, fort presentations, and more."

Following a post-ride Bike Safety workshop presented by Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition, Sylvan FamilyFondo participants will be able to take part in the "Passport to Learning" Contest for a chance to win a new bike! The young cyclists will explore the Fort Langley National Historic Site answering the Passport's questions before returning it to the Sylvan booth to show just how much they have learned.

Sylvan Learning is presenting a special early-bird registration draw. Simply register by July 6th for a chance to win one of three e-readers or a Chapters Book Prize. Families can register on-line at www.SylvanFamilyFondo.com
