December 18/12 12:25 pm - Last 48 Hours for CC Awards Voting

Posted by Editoress on 12/18/12

We are down to the final two days of voting for the 2012 Canadian Cyclist of the Year awards.

In the voting for the top Woman we have a two-way race between Mountain Bike World Cup champion Catharine Pendrel and Olympic fifth place finisher Clara Hughes. Pendrel holds a slim lead over Hughes, but that could still change. In fact, the Paralympic gold medal tandem duo of Robbi Weldon and Lyne Bessette cannot be counted out either; although it will take a surge of votes to move them into the lead.

In the Men's category, Giro d'Italia winner Ryder Hesjedal has taken an almost insurmountable, while Olympic mountain biker Geoff Kabush and U23 road pro Hugo Houle are battling neck and neck for second place.

The Best Individual Performance category has five performances in contention for the three awards to be handed out. Ryder Hesjedal's final Giro stage performance is the top vote getter, but there are four performances that could take the other two awards: the Olympic bronze medal women's Team Pursuit squad; Weldon and Bessette's Paralympic gold medal road race; Zach Bell's track Worlds silver medal in the Omnium; and Monique Sullivan's career-best sixth place in the Olympic Keirin.

The new Canadian Cyclist Bike Shops of the Year category has proven to be very popular, with votes for favoured shops pouring in from all across the country. We will be selecting the top shops in each region for this award, so be sure to support your favourite shop.

Cast your votes for the 2012 Canadian Cyclist of the Year Awards.

Voting will close at Noon EDT on Thursday, December 20th.
