October 9/13 22:39 pm - Whistler Ends MTB Season with Scavenger Hunt

Posted by Editoress on 10/9/13

The fourth annual Chasse au Tresor scavenger hunt - taking place Saturday, October 12th - is not about intense competition, being the fastest, or gunning it down tight single track trails. It's about hanging out with a friend or three, riding bikes and solving a series of clues and puzzles in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. It is also an opportunity to celebrate an incredible summer of riding and put the Bike Park to bed for the next seven months.

Paired up in teams of two or four, riders will scour the Bike Park for clues, Instagramming their progress and occasionally performing challenges along the way. Awards and draw prizes will be handed out during the après held at the Garibaldi Lift Company starting at 3:00pm. The afternoon will wrap up with a Thanksgiving turkey dinner at 5:30pm, followed by a triple header movie premier at 7:00pm. SecondBase films will be screening ARRIVAL for a second year in a row, and participants will also see a new Summer of Summit film as well as the premiere of The Salvadorian Way by SheGNARnigans.

"We have more prizes this year than we've ever offered before. During the GLC après we will be awarding prizes valued at over $3,000 as well as a bike park season pass for next year," said Seb Fremont, events supervisor at Whistler Blackcomb. "Forget intense competition, this event is all about spending time on your bike with friends, sharing a few laughs and celebrating another awesome Whistler Mountain Bike Park season."

Prizes up for grabs:

• 2014 Bike Park Season Pass

• $3,000 worth of other prizes courtesy of partners:
Rock Shox fork
SRAM drive train
Truvativ cranks, handlebars, chain guide
Dakine clothing

New this year, teams will take Instagram photos at each check point and mark it with the event's hashtag in order to track their progress. Team members must stay together at all times and each photo must contain at least half of the team members. The team with the best picture of the day, as judged by the event organizers, will win a prize.

Entry into Chasse au Tresor is $10. For participants who do not have a bike park season pass or card, discounted tickets are $16. The after party and turkey dinner is priced at $25. To pre-register and for more information visit www.whistlerbike.com .

The last day of riding in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park is Monday, October 14th. Whistler Blackcomb is scheduled to officially open for skiing and snowboarding on Thursday, November 28th.
