Elite Mountain Bike Race Squad and Headwaters Health Care Centre Form First of a Kind Fundraising Partnership

HB Racing Inc. - one of Ontario's most competitive mountain bike race teams - and Headwaters Health Care Centre have formed a unique partnership that will raise funds for purchasing new medical equipment and to support HB Racing's mountain bike and road racing efforts while promoting cycling throughout Headwaters country.

"This is not a typical sponsorship arrangement where we would receive financial support in return for carrying a corporate logo", observes Scott Holmes, HB Racing's team captain adding, "HB Racing's goal is to raise $40,000 in the first year of our partnership of which $24,800 will accrue directly to Headwaters Health Care Centre with the remainder used to support HB Racing's race efforts and for promoting cycling in Dufferin County / Headwaters Region."

"In our view this effort is about being both cycling ambassadors for a critical community service while promoting cycling to the next generation of Headwaters Region riders and racers. It's about perpetuating the sport and a healthy lifestyle. It's a way to give back to the community in which we first rode a bike and discovered a lifetime of fun and healthy competitive challenges."

The Headwaters Health Care Centre - HB Racing partnership involves race team members (and members of its parent affiliate HB Cycling Club) seeking individual sponsorships for events sanctioned by the Ontario Cycling Association. These events include "Ontario Cup" mountain bike and road race events, citizens' cycling events and 8 hour and 24 hour endurance mountain bike racing events. In addition HB racing will be holding 3 major fundraising events in Dufferin County during the race year:

1. A Headwaters community celebration of the 10 year anniversary of The Epic Ride bike shop - a key race support sponsor of the HB Racing team. The May 6 2006 celebration will include a raffle for bicycles and cycling equipment as well as a donation drive;

2. A Dufferin County Bicycle Festival on June 17th 2006 that will feature a round trip bicycle ride for riders of all levels including a children's course as well a very challenging full competitive course through the hills of Mono;

3. A late fall citizen's cycling event at the Mansfield Outdoor Centre. Riders will be able to choose either a 20km mountain bike tour or 40km competitive mountain bike race. This event has been held for many years and this will be the first year that HB Racing and HB Cycling Club will be hosting the event.

HB Racing's goal is to raise $40,000 in the first year of its partnership with Headwaters Health Care Centre of which $24,800 will accrue directly to Headwaters Health Care Centre to fund the purchase items such as defibrillators, blood pressure monitors, ECG Machines and pediatric echocardiography probes. The remainder will be used to support HB Racing's race efforts (bike parts and equipment, transportation, lodging, clothing and accessories etc.) and for promoting cycling in Dufferin County / Headwaters Region.

A press conference unveiling the partnership is scheduled for Monday April 3 from 10 AM - 11AM. In the main lobby of the Headwaters Health Care Centre located at 100 Rolling Hills Drive in Orangeville.
