Meet New Zealand's Millennium Cycling Ride Organizers in Vancouver

Vancouver, BC - The organizers of 2000 First-To-The-Sun cycling adventure will be in Vancouver for two days, Monday, October 5th & Tuesday, October 6th 1998 to unveil the details of the unique millennium cycling tour scheduled for the dawning of a new century in New Zealand.

2000 First- to- the- Sun is a 1000km (or 625 mile) cycling tour across the North Island of New Zealand for up to two thousand riders from all over the world. It will start in Auckland and will reach Gisborne on 1st January 2000. Gisborne is officially designated as the first city in the world to see the sunrise. The cyclists will be amongst the few in the world to view the spectacle of a new dawn as the sun rises over the Pacific Ocean for the first time in the 21st century.

The organizers stress that 2000 First -to- the- Sun is not a race and is open to casual and serious cyclists alike. The Ride Director, Patrick Horton says, " We're seeking people who will contribute to the international atmosphere of the tour. We want singles, couples or families with children over 14 years of age. We want anyone who thinks that this 3 week cycling adventure would be a great way to celebrate the millennium and the dawning of a new century during New Zealand's warm early summer. There will be parties with cyclists from around the world who share the same passion for life and in viewing this one time experience but most of all everyone will be there to share in the celebration and to have fun."

The organizers hope that the event will attract many Canadian cyclist enthusiasts. Anyone interested in finding out more can register for one of the FREE informative seminars and slide presentations that are being held by both Directors Patrick Horton from England and Chris Bradley from New Zealand.

Presentations in Vancouver will be held at the CAPS Bicycle Store, 333 W 2nd at 7:00 pm on Monday, October 5 and 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 6, 1998. An information session will also be held in Victoria at the Ocean Pointe Resort, 45 Songhees, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6. For more on the information session call Stephen Kim or Wayne Hobbis @ (604) 873-1449 or cell (604) 618-3594.
