Now in its third year, the Haywood Yaletown Grand Prix presented by Deans Knight Capital Management is back and better than ever. Vancouver’s newest Canada Day tradition brings hundreds of bike racers to the historic streets of Yaletown as they compete for over $5,000 in prize money and the Haywood Cup.

For 2006, the ongoing construction of Vancouver’s new Airport rapid transit line has forced a course change, and the new 6-corner, 900 metre layout will produce fast and furious action. The course winds through the heart of Yaletown with numerous patios and raised loaded docks providing ideal viewpoints for watching the action—it’s a great way to spend a summer afternoon!

This year, the Yaletown Grand Prix is pleased and proud of the addition of key sponsors to the event. Haywood Securities and Deans Knight Capital Management, two of Vancouver’s premiere financial companies, have come onboard to support the event: “We’re a bunch of avid cyclists ourselves,” said Craig Langdon of Deans Knight, “and partnering up with such a great bike event in downtown Vancouver is a great way for us to support the sport and community.”

While, the Yaletown Grand Prix has had numerous top level riders like Roland Green, Alison Sydor and Svein Tuft, according to Event Director Paul Done, the race is about more than the pros: “We’re proud that so many great riders love our race and have come back for more, but for us the Yaletown Grand Prix is also a celebration of the sport and we’re just as happy that we give amateurs the chance to ride on a closed downtown course with lots of friends, family and spectators there to cheer them on.”

Continuing the tradition of youth-oriented charitable partners, this year the Yaletown Grand Prix will raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver who deliver a wide range of health, educational and recreational services to over 6000 local children annually.

Saturday, July 1st will rock like never before in Yaletown as the full day of racing starts at 1:30 with the pro races getting underway at 4:30. For more information and registration, visit www.yaletowngrandprix.com.

Other sponsors who make the 2006 Yaletown Grand Prix possible include the Mark James Group, Concha y Toro Wines, Sleeman’s Brewing, John Henry Bikes, Adidas Eyewear, Urban Fare, Canadian Springs Water, Powerbar, Gaults and Trauma Tech along with media sponsors Jack-FM and The Province.
