Day 1

World Junior and Elite Championship Class

First Round of Qualification

Moto 1 - Layne Nyhaug (Port Coquitlam BC) Junior Women - 4th
Moto 4 - Christine Miller (Airdire AB) Junior Women - 2nd
Moto 5 ˆ Danielle Brisson (Vancouver BC) Junior Women - 4th
Moto 6 - Kaila Sweeney (Calgary AB) Junior Women - 3rd
Moto 16 - Jimmy Brown (Airdrie, AB) Junior Men - 3rd
Moto 18 - Nick Goertzen (Abbotsford BC) Junior Men - 2nd
Moto 19 ˆ Samantha Cools (Airdrie AB) Elite Women - 3rd
Moto 25 ˆ Patrick Lebel (Calgary AB) Elite Men - 6th (crash)
Moto 26 - Scott Erwood (Abbotsford BC) - 6th

Top four athletes from each Moto moved on to the finals.

Junior Men:
Jim Brown and Nick Goertzen have qualified for the 1/8 finals and then moved on to 1/4 finals. They finished 3rd and 4th in the 1/4 finals and moved into the semi-finals. Unfortunately, in the semi-finals, Goertzen and Brown both crashed and did not advance.

Elite Men:
Patrick Lebel was the only elite man to move on to the 1/8 finals. In the 1/8 finals, he finished 5th in his heat and was eliminated from the competition.

Elite Women:
Sam Cools made it to the semi-finals, but she broke her chain out of the gate, and finished last which did not enable her to qualify for finals.

Junior Women:
All four junior women have qualified for the 1/8 finals. In the 1/8 finals, Christine Miller finished 4th in her heat and moved on to the semi finals. Layne Nyhaug crashed in the 1/4 finals and did not move on. Kaila Sweeney and Danielle Brisson finished 5th and 6th and were eliminated.

Christine Miller finished 4th again in her heat in the semi finals and went into the finals.

Christine Miller took the 5th place finish in the Junior Women category at today‚s 2006 BMX World Championships.

Day 2

Samantha Cools (Airdrie, AB) won silver in the Elite Women's cruiser category. Canada's Peter Jensen (Maple Ridge, BC) repeated as World Challenge Cruiser Champion in the 45 and over category.

Six members of the Junior & Elite BMX National Team were competing in the Championship cruiser category in the afternoon, and Sam Cools, top Women Elite in the National rankings, delivered Canada's best performance with a silver medal:

- Kaila Sweeney (Calgary, AB) and Layne Nyhaug (Port Coquitlam BC), both Junior Women
- Jimmy Brown (Airdrie, AB) in the Junior Men
- Samantha Cools (Airdrie, AB) in the Elite Women
- Scott Erwood (Abbotsford, BC) and Kevin Hill (Vernon, BC), both Elite Men

After three rounds of motos, the Junior Women went right to semi finals, the Junior Men went right to quarter finals, the Elite Women went right to semi finals, and the Elite Men went right to quarter finals. The top four in each round continued on to the finals.

In the Championship category, Jimmy Brown (Airdrie, AB) qualified for the 1/4 finals in the Junior Men‚s category, but finished 6th and was eliminated.

In the Elite Men‚s category, Scott Erwood (Abbotsford, BC) and Kevin Hill (Vernon BC) did not qualify for the 1/4 finals.

Kaila Sweeney (Calgary, AB) did not qualify for the Junior Women semi-final, while Layne Nyhaug (Port Coquitlam, BC), crashed in her semi-final.
