It is not yet official, but there will be some significant changes to the Mountain Bike National Team selection criteria for next year. From what we understand, the criteria will be considerably streamlined. As soon as the High Performance Committee signs off on the new criteria we will report them here.

Another very successful event. Henry Sojhacki did a great job of organizing this one and had managed to get a number of sponsors. Placed riders in all categories got trophies and/or medals and also merchandise.

The senior event was a hard-fought one with the lead quartet of Christian Hansen (Valunet), Josh Hall (Schwinn Canada), Jeff Weber (Kona) and Andrew Croutch (Independent), swapping positions several times in the first half of the race. Towards the end, Weber showed his class with a repeat of last week's win at West Deane Park. Hall held him to just over 20 seconds, and showed that he's on schedule to peak for the Nationals in 2 weeks. Croutch surprisingly beat out a fading Hansen for 3rd place and Christian just managed to edge out brother Jeff (Neworld), to round out the quartet.

Of note was Chrissy Redden's (Ritchey) performance. She finished 12th. overall in the men's field, well over a lap up on Lisa Hussey (Chain Reaction). In the Vet/Junior/Cadet event, Peter Mazur (Polonus) outclassed the field to finish 31 seconds up on Eric Orschell (Silent Sports) and over 6 minutes up on Junior runner-up Enrico Traini. Peter's time, extrapolated to 8 laps would have placed him 6th in the senior race!

The Novice race was a hoot. Seven starters, ranging in age from 8 to 15 literally tore round a 400 meter circuit complete with barriers. The 'more-experienced' riders cleared the obstacles in a similar fashion to the big guys, but the younger ones either dragged, threw or lifted their velos over each one. The smallest competitor, riding a 16 inch wheel bike, was lifted over each barrier by his doting dad!! Let's hope that next year all the organizers will include an event for kids.
