Quebec Cycling In Mourning
By Amanda Leigh Cox

Quebecois Masters cyclist Robert Brisson has died following a hit and run in Montreal Friday, October 20th at roughly 17h30 while on his way home from work. Killed instantly at the scene, the accident happened in Parc Industriele Lachine - Fairway St., between Francois Lenoir St. and Brandon Crescent. A passerby found his body and immediately called 911; his bike was found several metres away, after presumably having been dragged by the truck that struck him. Police are actively searching for anyone who might have seen the accident and be able to provide information that may lead to an arrest.

A coach at the Peak Centre of Montréal, Robert was held in exceptional esteem. "He was a model employee in all regards; punctual, honest, motivated, someone you could trust no matter what." stated Pierre Hutsebaut, the Peak Centre's Director.

Robert had been involved with cycling for over two decades as a competitor since 2003, winning the titles of Quebec Masters Track Champion in 2005 and Canadian Masters Track Vice Champion in 2003. In addition to his personal exploits on the bike, Robert was the founder of a cycling club in the Montreal region, and coach of the Vélo Club Sud-Ouest with Czeslaw Lukaszewicz.

A track sprinter and roadie par excellence, Robert will be remembered most for his gentleness and generosity - pre or post race, Robert was always ready to support his fellow cyclists with a kind word, open ear, or helpful advice. He leaves behind his wife Sylvie and their two young children. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time and we wish them peace. We'll miss you Robert.
