52 competitors from Ontario, Quebec and various U.S. states signed on at the Forest City Velodrome last night. The result was an unbelievable three hours of intense competition.

Highlight of the evening was the sprint tournament which included two reigning world masters champions, Stephen Hill of Winslow Georgia and Gord Singleton of Niagara Falls.

The two champions met in the quarter finals where Hill edged Singleton in a photo finish. Hill then lost the best of three in the semi-final to Lawrence Laroux of Montreal.

In the final for gold, it was local trackster Jamie Shankland of Waterloo edging out Laroux.

In the feature 50 lap finale to the evening Mike Renneboog of Brantford/Delhi turned on the afterburners to fly through the field of riders and caught leader Taylor Martin at the line for another photo finish win and end one of the most exciting evenings of racing this year.

Racing continues today at 1 pm.
