New West Coast Training

Given the interesting weather the west coast has been receiving this winter, it appears that some cyclists are taking up a new form of off-season training: snowshoe running!

Andreas Hestler appears on the cover of the current issue of Impact Magazine, and both he and Kiara Bisaro (whose name is unfortunately misspelled) talk about the benefits of the sport.

Hestler: "Coming from a cycling background, I am looking to do the least amount of damage to my body during the off-season," says Hestler. "My first impression of snowshoeing was how forgiving the soft snow was."

Kiara Bassaro (sic) agrees. "Snow running is great cross-training for cycling. The ascents are perfect for cycling muscles, and when you float downhill in soft powder the impact is low. It's also a great cardio workout."

Bisaro is racing the 10 Kilometre Yeti Snowshoe Race in Mount Washington and Whistler.

Of course, this is a west coast activity, since they are the only ones receiving the requisite snow (a little eastern dig there...).
