Tour de Langkawi, Malaysia

Report:

Well today was pretty much the calm before the storm. With only 100kms to this stage, the riders took it relatively easy. Again after the first sprint at 25km, a breakaway of two riders formed to create a lead of 2min that was caught 20kms from the finish, thanks to the New-Zeland team leading the chase to conserve Greame Miller's yellow jersey.

As far as our riders are concerned, they rode an aggressive race, with Rodney Henderson getting up there in the intermediate sprints. The stage win went to David McKenzie of the Linda McCartney team althought there was a bit of a mix up with 500 meters to go when the whole pack went of course. The race officials dicided to keep the results as is. In the overall standings, nothing has changed.

Tomorrow is more than likely going to be a good indication of who is in shape and who is not. The race profile is almost entirely flat but with 50 kms to go, the road rises to 600 meters and decends to the finish line using pretty narrow and windy roads. After 217 kms of racing in the 3rd stage, the riders will be looking for a well deserved rest.

Nanuet, New York - (February 1999) - Festina USA, the American distributor of Europe's most popular watch brands, has expanded its presence on the hills and trails of North America by signing on as sponsor and official timekeeper of the Catera Professional Mountain Bike Team, named after its primary sponsor, the Cadillac Catera. Following its successful 1998 season, with three of its four riders finishing in the top ten of the 1998 NORBA (National Off-Road Bicycle Association) series, Team Catera has re-signed all its top riders for the upcoming season, including Canadian Chris Sheppard, currently the top-ranked rider in North America.
