CCA Mourns The Death Of Young Cyclist Alexandre Morin

Funerals To Be Held Saturday February 24

The Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) is mourning the death of young cycling hopeful Alexandre Morin, 16, of Québec City, who (probably) died of hypothermia, following the snow storm which hit his home city last week.

"According to the numerous testimonies from the people who knew him quite well, I know that Alexandre was a true model to his friends and family. It is really tough to have to admit the loss of a young boy like him, and it reminds us of the recent death of our friend cyclist Robert Brisson. Let’s go and pursue our dreams and work hard to achieve them, because it is worth it and it is certainly what Alexandre would be doing," said Vincent Jourdain, CCA National Road Coach.

Attempts to find Alexandre generated a wave of solidarity and sympathy from Québec City and area residents, when his body was finally found on Saturday February 17th. The cause and circumstances of his death will be clarified following a complete investigation report which will be produced within a couple of months. The CCA wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to the members of the Morin family and relatives, classmates and friends of Alexandre. The funeral will be held on Saturday February 24th in Sillery (QC).

L'ACC Perd Un Jeune Espoir Cycliste

Les Obsèques Du Jeune Alexandre Morin Se Dérouleront Samedi 24 Février

L’Association cycliste canadienne (ACC) est attristée par le décès du jeune espoir cycliste Alexandre Morin, 16 ans, de Québec, qui serait mort d’hypothermie, suite à la tempête de neige qui a sévit à Québec la semaine dernière.

« Je sais grâce aux nombreux témoignages de sympathie de la part de ceux et celles qui le connaissaient très bien, qu’Alexandre était un modèle pour ses amis et sa famille. C’est difficile d’admettre la disparition d’un jeune garçon tel que lui, et cela nous rappelle évidemment le départ trop précipité de notre ami cycliste Robert Brisson. Continuons à poursuivre nos rêves et à travailler fort pour y parvenir, car cela en vaut la peine et c’est sûrement ce que Alexandre ferait. », dit Vincent Jourdain, entraîneur national route, ACC.

Les recherches, qui ont soulevé un élan de solidarité et de sympathie dans toute la région, ont finalement abouti samedi 17 février dernier, lorsque son corps a été retrouvé sans vie. Un rapport d’investigation plus complet permettra de connaître les causes et circonstances de son décès d’ici quelques mois. L’ACC offre ses sincères condoléances aux membres de la famille Morin ainsi qu’à tous les proches, camarades d’école et amis d’Alexandre. Les funérailles se dérouleront le samedi 24 février à Sillery (QC).
