OCA AGM - Changes in Ontario

Yesterday (March 3rd) the Ontario Cycling Association held its Annual General Meeting to report to its members on the financial status of the organization and hold elections. Overall, the OCA is in a strong financial situation, surpassing the $1 million mark in revenues for the first time, and boasting over 10,000 members. The latter is primarily through the expanded club membership program.

Jim Crosscombe stepped down as president of the Association in late January, after 8 years at the helm, and will assume the full time position of Executive Director of the OCA in the next few days (he has been acting ED since Steve Merker left at the end of last year). The OCA has two other new faces in the office: Brendan Arnold, High Performance Coordinator, and Matthew Knight, Development Coordinator.

The OCA is currently without a President - one will be appointed for the remainder of Crosscombe's term (one year) by the Board.

Considerable discussion was held on the planned ability-based road licencing proposal. While there is much approval for the plan, a number of organizers pointed out that this may lead to some categories being too large, while others (such as Pro / Senior 1-2 Men) will shrink drastically. The Development Committee is still looking for input from members on the proposal.

The Development Committee also announced a planned Youth Series of road races - 5 for 2007 - which are intended to reduce the troubling reduction in young riders road racing. Details (where and when) have not yet been released.
