UCI MTB Rankings Updated
The UCI has released updated mountain bike rankings that include the first World Cup of the year. Geoff Kabush (Maxxis) has dropped slightly, to third in the men's standings from second, Seamus McGrath (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) to 26th from 16th (McGrath did not race Houffalize), and Max Plaxton (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) to 29th from 21st. The biggest gains were by winner Jose Hermida (Multivan Merida) to 6th from 106th and Julien Absalon (Orbea) from 27th to 4th. In Nation standings, Canada has dropped to 3rd from 2nd, as Spain leapfrogged up from 10th to 2nd based on Hermida's win.
For the women, Sabine Spitz (Ghost International takes over the top spot (up from 6th), followed by Houffalize winner Chengyuan Ren of China. American Georgia Gould (Luna) moves into third, followed by Mary McConneloug (Kenda-Seven) and Marga Fullana (Spiuk-Tau Ceramica). The top Canadian is Marie-Helene Premont (Rocky Mountain-Haywood), well back in 36th spot. Sandra walter (Felt XO) is next at 79th, followed by Kiara Bisaro (Opus) in 90th place. Wendy Simms (Kona) is 148th and Alison Sydor (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) at 333rd. In the Nation standings, Canada has moved up from 38th to 20th, but still has a long way to go. The USA has moved into first place, followed by China and New Zealand.
