The Canadian Cycling Association has announced the start of the Hamilton 2003 Foundation Road Cycling Athlete Travel and Training Subsidy Program. This program will provide direct financial assistance to aspiring road cyclists with successful results who have the potential to achieve higher competitive levels and results. All applications must be received by the CCA no later than May 15, 2007.

The Hamilton 2003 Foundation Road Cycling Athlete Travel and Training Subsidy Program provides direct financial assistance to aspiring road cyclists with successful results who have the potential to achieve higher competitive levels and results. The goal of the fund is to relieve the financial burden on junior/development athletes lacking in financial resources. Financial assistance is considered for travel to designated development camps and/or specific races as designated in the application guidelines Each successful grant applicant will be able to submit travel and training expenses for reimbursement.

The Hamilton 2003 Foundation is a legacy of the 2003 Road Cycling World Championships, held in Hamilton, Ontario. The Foundation is administered by a volunteer board of directors.

Eligibility
In order to be considered for this program, athletes must meet the following criteria:
• Applicants must be Canadian citizens residing in Canada who are members in good standing of the Canadian Cycling Association and hold a UCI road license issued by the CCA;
• Applicants must have completed at least one full year of sanctioned competition;
• Male applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 22, and female applicants must be between 18 and 24 (in exceptional circumstances, older athletes may be considered for this subsidy if there is sufficient justification);
• Applicants may not be members of a UCI ProTour team or UCI Continental Professional team, and applicants who are members of a UCI Continental team or a UCI women's team must have the team submit justification for funding;
• Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Application Process
To become part of the Travel and Training Subsidy Program, athletes must complete and submit the following by May 15, 2007:
1. An introductory cover letter;
2. The Travel and Training Subsidy Program application form (attached), including detailed information on anticipated travel and training expenses;

4. A complete cycling resume, including a colour portrait photo (original print, or a jpeg or tiff image no smaller than 450 pixels wide and 600 pixels high, with a minimum resolution of 150 dpi);
5. A recommendation letter from an NCCP-certified cycling coach, which should speak of your athletic potential and goals.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and submitted to the Hamilton Foundation Board of Directors for final approval. Successful applicants will be informed no later than June 15, 2007. Applications received after the May 15th deadline will be considered for future grants.

Each grant recipient will be informed of the specific expenses the Hamilton Foundation will support and the maximum amount he or she is eligible to receive from the Hamilton Foundation.

At the end of the season, by October 31 2007, each recipient must also submit a report detailing how the funds were spent and what effect this had on performance during the year, along with original receipts for the approved expenses. The CCA will then issue reimbursement to a stipulated maximum amount. Receipts for non-approved expenses will not be reimbursed.
