Another beautiful southern Alberta evening greeted racers this Tuesday in Calgary as Race #2 of the 2007 Midweek Mayhem crit series took to the road.

The B race was almost double the amount of participants from last week, and the field included some strong female racers such as Calgary's own Mical Dyck, and Laura Brown of Team Integrale out of British Columbia who helped animate things.

At 25m + 2 laps this weeks race saw a more attacking style of riding and faster speeds than last week, but it still came down to the bunch kick at the end with Paul Martin of Bow Cycle/CMC taking it out over Peter Dunham (Ind) and Chris Langill (Terrascape) for the podium spots.

The A race also saw a larger field this week. Notables included Phil Abbot of the ItalPasta team from Ontario , freshly back from a national team project in Europe in which (among other big events) he rode the amateur version of the Ardennes classic Liege - Bastogne - Liege in Belgium.

The race was quite aggressive, and a Prime lap on the second lap of the race helped to hot things up quickly. A group of 3 (including Abbot) got away early with Matt Usborne (racing in Team Marco Polo colours) working hard to bridge across solo. Eventually it all came back together in part due to the work of the H&R Block riders on the front of the main chase group. More attacks throughout the 30m + 3 lap race shredded the field to bits, but in the end it came down to a 3-up sprint between Abbot, Usbourne, and Cyrus Kangarloo of Synergy Racing, with Abbot taking out the win and Usborne the second step on the podium.

For complete results please check out the Midweek Mayhem website at www.midweek-mayhem.ca under Results - Series 1 - Race 2. Please note that we have implemented our points system for this week, and will be updating last weeks results as well as posting an overall standings table shortly.

More action to come next week from Calgary, where we expect to see fields increase again as summer weather helps kick the local speed freaks into higher gear!
