Race results June 3, 2007

The day was hazy but the temperature and winds were moderate, on the 65 km Caledon Lake course that was the site of the Ontario Master's race on Sunday. It was a pursuit race, with three groupings, the handicap being the 10 minute delay intervals at the starting line. Phil Renaud of the first group started slowly, but once warmed up improved his pace rapidly. He soon left his pairing behind and disappeared over the roller coaster hills on the back side of the course. Three veterans Roy Conway, Peter Morris, and Don Kreuger followed 10 minutes later in the second group, followed by Jim Hutchison, and Rob Szasz, the top contenders of the final group.

It was a sprint to the finish but Don Kreuger's off-season training and his focus in this event saw him place first with a time of 2:08:56, beating Peter Morris by a wheel! Finishing third was Renaud with a time of 2:9:35 - all the more remarkable as he did not have the benefit of any riders pulling him along! Szasz was 4th, 2:11:07 and Hutchison 5th 2:16:55. It came as no surprise that these riders had the fastest Actual Ride times of 1:51 and 1:55 respectively. Roy Conway was 6th with a finish time of 2:25:50.
