Organizers of the RONA MS Bike Tour – Grand Bend to London expect over 1300 cyclists to participate on July 28th and 29th and to raise over $700,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

Local cycle enthusiast Carl Freeland will be participating in the RONA MS Bike Tour – Grand Bend to London again this year and will be joined by his cycling club and team, Great Canadian Bicycle Tours. Freeland has participated in the tour for three years now as a Tour Leader and encourages everyone to join. “You meet so many people and look forward to finding your old friends each year”, says Freeland. Before the weekend, Freeland suggests to “get your bike tuned and get out riding; start with 10 km and work your way up”.

If you aren’t able to join the Tour, donations can be made to Freeland, the Great Canadian Bicycle Tours team or any participant by visiting www.msbiketours.com.

Raising over $625,000 in 2006, the RONA MS Bike Tour – Grand Bend to London is the largest single fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Southwestern Ontario and is the largest RONA MS Bike Tour in all of Ontario. In addition to funding research, the MS Society provides services for people who have MS as well as family members, caregivers, and health care professionals.

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable and often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Canada has one of the highest rates of MS, a disease for which the cause and the cure are currently unknown. Common symptoms are extreme fatigue, vision, and balance problems. Symptoms can range from subtle nerve sensations to severe pain, and possibly severe paralysis.

The other four RONA MS Bike Tours in Ontario are: Ottawa to Kemptville (August 11 and 12), Brampton to Waterloo (August 18 and 19), Niagara (August 26) and Toronto (September 9). There are more than 22 RONA MS Bike Tours in Canada.
