Canadian Team For BMX World Championships

The Canadian Cycling Association is proud to announce the full team for the elite and junior classes at the 2007 BMX World Championships in Victoria, BC, which will take place from July 27 to 29.

The Canadian team is spearheaded by medal-favorite Samantha Cools of Airdrie, Alberta, who leads a group of 10 athletes chosen through the published selection criteria and evaluation by National BMX Coach Tanya Dubnicoff. These athletes will receive full support from the CCA's coaches, sport scientists and medical staff for the world championships:

In addition, another 21 Canadians met the minimum performance standards and will be part of the worlds team. These athletes will receive a more limited level of support from the national team:

Para Worlds Selection

The Canadian Cycling Association is pleased to announce the composition of the Canadian team for the Para-Cycle world championships, to be held in Bordeaux, France, from August 19th to 27th.

Selections were based on performances at the national championships and international rankings.

• Daniel Chalifour / Alex Cloutier (QC) – men's tandem (road race, time trial, pursuit, kilo)
• Stéphane Côté / Pierre-Olivier Boily (QC) – men's tandem (road race, time trial, pursuit)
• Brian Cowie (BC) / Devon Smibert (AB) – men's tandem (time trial, pursuit, sprint, kilo)
• Gene Della Siega (BC) / Craig DeVeer (ON) – men's tandem (road race, kilo)
• Jean Quévillon (QC) – men's CP3
• Braydon McDougall (AB) – men's CP3
• Eric Bourgault (QC) – men's LC2
• Mark Beggs (QC) – men's HCB
• Rico Morneau (QC) – men's HCB
• Lisa Stowe (AB) – women's LC1

Junior Road And Track Worlds Selection

The Canadian Cycling Association is pleased to announce the composition of the Canadian team for the junior road and track world championships, to be held in Aguascalientes, Mexico, from August 4th to 12th.

Selections were based on performances at the national championships in the road and track events.

The following athletes have been selected for the men's road race:

• Stéphane Cossette - QC
• Matt Potma - BC
• Guillaume Boivin - QC
• Spencer Smitheman - AB


The two time trial athletes will be nominated from among Potma, Boivin and Smitheman by the coach closer to the date of competition.

Two athletes have been nominated as reserves: Simon Lambert-Lemay (QC) and Cody Campbell (BC).

The following athletes have been selected for the women's road race and time trial:

• Danielle Kenney - AB
• Denise Ramsden – ON (pending recovery from a broken wrist)


The following athletes have been selected for the track competitions:

• Stéphane Cossette – QC (men's sprint events)
• Matt Potma – BC (men's endurance events)

• Monique Sullivan – AB (women's sprint events)

The team will be supported by the following staff:

• Vincent Jourdain – head coach
• Andrew Feenstra – assistant coach
• Jonathan Boisvert – mechanic
• Martin Zollinger – soigneur
