British Columbia Cycling Time Trial Championships
Individual Time Trial Will Challenge BC's Best Cyclists on tough Squamish Course
Team Escape Velocity is proud to be the host of the BC Time Trial Championships to be held in Squamish on August 11, 2007. Racing against the clock, the 38.5 km out and back course adjacent to the Squamish River will provide competitors with a true test of their strength, endurance and determination.
We expect to see some of the top cyclists in British Columbia at this event, Rich Woo, Team Escape Velocity race co-organizer said. The top competitors will average speeds near 50 km/h on this exciting course.
The cycling time trial is referred to as the race of truth pitting racers against the clock. Riding alone, racers cannot draft (ride in the slipstream) behind other competitors and must get everything they can out of themselves and their equipment. Special light weight and aerodynamic time trial bicycles, helmets and aero handlebars will be used by many of the top time trial competitors. To be successful in the time trial, riders must be able to sustain very high physical output over a long period of time, maintain a controlled heart rate, have a smooth pedaling technique, and ride in an aerodynamic position.
We keep coming back to Squamish to hold the Time Trial Championships because of the challenging course, the amazing scenery and great local support, Ben Jackson, Team Escape Velocity race co-organizer said. With the growing popularity of cycling and related sports such as triathlon in British Columbia, the field for this event becomes is deeper and faster every year.
Not only will 2007's BC Time Trial champions be determined, but this race is the final race in the hotly contested BC Cup series. Points from the time trial will be pivotal in determining the BC Cup Champion in the senior men's and women's categories.
