Just a reminder of the Ontario Elite Team Trials for the National Championships this week at the Forest City Velodrome.

Our goal is to have the strongest team possible at Nationals. There will be 2 opportunities for track athletes to make the Team Sprint and Team Pursuit teams. Plan now to attend and come rested and ready to set personal bests in the qualifying trials.

Opportunity #1, Wednesday night August 8th
Warm-up at 5pm - 7pm.
Qualifier starts at 7pm.

Opportunity #2 Saturday afternoon August 11th
Warm-up at 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Qualifier starts at 6:30pm

How the Qualifiers will work:

Team Sprint - Each rider will use the starting gate to do a standing start 2 lap TT. after a 30 minute rest each rider will do a 5 lap Standing start TT. The team will be the 3 riders with the Quickest Times (1 from 2 Lap TT & 2 from 5 Lap TT)

Team Pursuit - Each rider will use the starting gate to do a standing start 2km TT. After a 30 minute rest each rider will do a Flying 2km TT. The teams will be assembled with the 4 fastest riders (accumulated time) on the Red Team and the next 4 times on the White Team.

There will also be 1 reserve rider each of the Sprint and Pursuit Teams.

This will be a Mandatory Test to make the teams - if you can not attend 1 of the sessions you will not be on the Sprint or Pursuit Teams.

Our intention is to also have a couple of practice sessions before Track Nationals for all riders interested in going to nationals.

Prepare today.

Great Results for the Forest City Velodrome riders at the New York State Track Championships this weekend. The track was a monster at 400 metres. Over 60 riders were entered in all the Championship events

Here are the Canadian Results on the weekend:

Sr. Men Kilo
1st Jamie Shankland
3rd Joe Veloce (jr)
7th Steve Meyer (jr)

Sr Men Pursuit - Very competitive with Steve Meyer (jr) finishing 2nd by 3/10's of a second.

Sr. Men Sprint - Joe lost to Jamie in the Semi's by a tire after leading out a very quick sprint. Jamie came 3rd in the final.

Sr Men Kierin - Joe took a flyer over the top as the motor pulled off, only to be DQ'd for a phantom pass of the motor (Black Helicopters are still circling). Jamie went on to finish 2nd.

Men's Scratch and Points Races - Steve had 2 great races with the Americans ganging up on the young rider from the FCV and finishing in the pack in both races. Steve was very aggressive and was up the road in each race and was in position to be on the podium.

In the Detroit 3 day Madison Grand Prix at Bloomer Park, the FCV was represented by Daniele Defranceschi and Dave Byers. they came back from a crash on the opening night of racing to finish on the top of the Podium. It just shows that our little Velodrome is producing results.
