Report From France
(courtesy Lynn Barry )

Four riders from the Women's National team are currently in the south part of France. They are Clara Hughes, Sue Palmer, Heather Cole and Sandy Espeseth. On Satuday they were involved in Castries, a 90 K road race. The race was hilly, and the Canadians controlled the pack, with Clara coming first, Sandy second, and Sue Palmer fourth.

On Sunday they raced Fleche Gascon, and race that consisted of a 95K road race and a 15K TT, with a 1.5K climb in it. Heather Cole broke away with 2 other riders 20K into the race. The rest of the Canadians worked on controlling the pack, and Heather won the race by over 5 minutes on the pack - 2.5 minutes over her beakaway companions. This was after being away for 75K. Along the way she also won the QOM prize. In the afternoon time trial, Heather was 12th , and won the overall race by about over 2.5 minutes. The split on the first 15 riders in the time trial was less that 30 seconds.

Both races were attended by Jeanne Longo and the Ebly Team, and other racers like the Lithuanian twins. It was a strong international field. Congratulations to all of the Canadians - it sounds as if they dominated the racing this weekend. They will remain in France as they prepare for the next stage race - Haute Garrone.
