It's been close to 20 years, if not 25, but BMX is back in Dieppe and this weekend will mark the official start for a new generation of cyclists. Kids from 5 to 18 years of age are invited to attend this new fun racing series for the next three weeks, the first edition of the NB Youth Cup. Racing will start at 12:30 and the track will be open from 10 am for practice. This series will take the same format as the well known Pepsi MTB Cup: Fun and participation oriented. Draw prizes will also be part of the game.

"It's been a long three years since we first talked about the possibility of reviving BMX in Dieppe and Atlantic Canada, but it's now official, the opening ceremonies will take place on Saturday and the ribbon will be cut!" says National Cycling Centre's president Guy Vincent. The Centre and especially the city worked real hard in the past months to get the track ready, but it now looks really good. "Everything is up to international standards, including the start gates. The city has been a great partner in the development of this facility, along with the government of New Brunswick and the Canadian Cycling Association" adds Vincent.

The new facility is not officially opened yet, but it keeps attracting more and more riders, from all ages. For the fall season, the track is opened to the public on Thursday and Sunday evenings from 6 to 7:15 and Saturday mornings from 10 to 12 (this time slot will now be reserved to kids participating in the NB Youth Cup). Everyone is welcome. Regulations simply ask you wear full pants, long sleeves sweater and gloves, along with a full face helmet. We have a limited number of helmets and BMX to try out, but we also accept 24 inch wheel bikes.

Everyone's welcome to attend this Saturday's first ever official race on this new facility. Kids looking to register (25$ for the series of 10$ per event) can simply contact the National Cycling Centre at 877-7809 or visit our web site at www.AtlanticCyclingCentre.com. In case of rain or wet track, the events will be re-scheduled to the week.
