Saputo Inc. awarded (Thursday) $60,000 in bursaries to 14 high-level athletes as part of the Saputo Bursary Program run by the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence.

With the Beijing Olympic Games fast approaching in August 2008, and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, it is important for Saputo to support athletes in their efforts to reach new levels of performance. Now, as these athletes’ dreams are fuelled by inspiration and a thirst for self-betterment, Saputo is pleased to have been able to increase the amount of money to be awarded to a few of the bursary recipients this year.

Because Saputo is convinced that healthy nutrition, supported by physical activity, is the key to a balanced growth for future generations, the Company makes sports development a big part of its commitment to the community.

The Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence reiterated its appreciation to Saputo, which has been providing tangible support to young athletes in pursuit of their dreams since 2000.

In 2005, Saputo renewed its partnership with the Foundationwhen it announced a $425,000 commitment over a 5-year period. Out of this amount, $25,000 is invested to support the Foundation’sactivitiesand $60,000 is awarded annually in bursaries to athletes in different disciplines. In addition, this partnership stipulates that athletes coming from outside Québec who train in a national training centre in Québec will also be able to obtain bursaries.
