Meier Makes the Local Newspaper

Christian Meier's second place at the Tour of Chihuahua has led to a full page article about the Symmetrics rider in The Province newspaper. Meier was second in GC to Tour de France stage winner Francisco Mancebo, after finishing with the same time after six stages (Mancebo took the title on stage placings).

"Considering the level of riders that were there -- guys like Francisco, who has won Tour de France stages, and Oscar Sevilla, who won the white jersey [for young riders] in the Tour de France -- it was a level that I've never really ridden at before," said Meier, a native of Sussex, N.B., who is in his third season with Symmetrics. "I would say it's a career highlight for sure."

Chihuahua is actually one of the first race of the 2008 Continental America Tour, so Symmetrics is once again at the forefront after Svein Tuft took the 2007 title.

The article also reveals that Meier has been approached by some of the bigger European teams, but will stay with Symmetrics through 2008.

"I've had some interest from some of the bigger European teams but I really like Symmetrics," said Meier, adding that he'll definitely be riding with Symmetrics in 2008.

"I really like the team and I really like all the guys. The guys work selflessly for each other and with that kind of atmosphere it's kind of hard to even think about ever leaving Symmetrics. But this is kind of the first time where teams have really approached me and said 'Well, what do you want to do?'"
