National Team Training Centre-Victoria Holds Road Training Camp

The National Team Training Centre-Victoria held a road training camp from Dec 10 to 14, 2007 to which all Carded and Talent Pool athletes were invited. The main goal of the camp was to gather athletes from all the cycling disciplines and to nurture the upcoming local talent. The group was involved in team building meetings and participated in group training rides. All training sessions were supervised by National Team coach Houshang Amiri.

PacificSport National Team Training Centre-Victoria would like to thank Saunders Subaru and Action Motorcycles for their many years of supporting the Centre and the athletes.

Monday Dec 10

Athletes arrived in the morning. In the afternoon they participated in a 90-minute yoga session with Elizabeth Peckham. They then met with Houshang to discuss the schedule for the week.

Tuesday Dec 11

The riders did a three-hour group ride in the morning that included two ITT's - a hill ITT (Willis Point) and a flat ITT in Sidney. These ITT's have been part of the NTTC-V camp training sessions for the past six years. The ITT times are recorded and kept in a database for future reference. In the afternoon all athletes participated in a dynamic strength gym session led by Trevor Miller, NTTC-V's strength and conditioning coach.

Wednesday Dec 12

The group did a five-hour ride in the morning that took them to Goldstream Park and the Malahat, Shawnigan Lake, and Cobble Hill. It included a nine-kilometre climb from Shawnigan Lake to Goldstream Heights. In the afternoon they met with Houshang to discuss their individual training and goals.

Thursday Dec 13

The riders had another five-hour ride in the morning. The ride did the tour of Peninsula and included a technical component - riding a pace line on the Sidney TT course. This assessed each rider's riding technique and will be particularly beneficial for the women athletes who are preparing for the first World Cups in Australia and New Zealand. In the afternoon they had a core strength assessment with Trevor Miller.

Friday Dec 14

The group did a five-hour ride with hill repeats in the morning. In the afternoon they participated in a dynamic strength gym session with Trevor Miller.

The riders who participated found the camp very beneficial. "The December camp was a success. It was valuable for training," said Erinne Willock. "We got our scheduled hours in with a combination of yoga, riding in sun and rain and plyometric gym sessions. It is always great to have a good group to do those big weeks with and this past week was no exception." Max Plaxton attended two days of the camp. "We were able to record some very important information. Both the times I posted on the uphill time trial on Willis Point and the flat time trial in Sidney were perfect for using as a reference in the up coming months of training."
