FQSC to Overhaul CCA

The FQSC (Fédération Québécoise des Sports Cyclistes
) will be put in charge of a complete overhaul of the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA), according to a document recently leaked to Canadian Cyclist.

It is no secret that the CCA has been struggling of late to deal with budget shortfalls which have impacted severely on the ability of the Association to provide services to the member provinces and the national team.

Quebec, which has been among the strongest provincial associations in the country - both financially and from a sport perspective - has been asked to step in by President Pierre Blanchard and conduct a complete revamp of the operations of the national association.

Blanchard is a former president of the FQSC but, when contacted, denied that this was an attempt to 'stack' the national team with Quebec riders, and said that there was no truth to the rumours that he intended to move the CCA headquarters to the Beauce region, or that national team members would be required to pass an oral French test before they could participate in national team projects.

"No! Can you imagine Seamus McGrath destroying our beautiful language? It is too horrible to contemplate."

However, it is significant that the CCA voicemail system is now entirely in French...
