The Burnaby Velodrome will showcase some of the best track racing talent that Canada has to offer at the Maydays Track Challenge, taking place May 9th, 10th, and 11th at the Harry Jerome Sports Center in Burnaby.
Featuring current and up-and-coming talent from many provinces, the weekend will offer the chance for spectators to watch many of Canadas national track champions test the strength of their challengers in a prelude to the 2008 National Track Championships, to take place at the Burnaby Velodrome in August.
Racing begins at 7pm on Friday night, runs all day Saturday through to 11pm, and wraps up with the final session on Sunday, beginning at 10am. The Friday night and Saturday night sessions (starting at 7pm) offer up a great spectator experience, with the exciting racing action enhanced by a colorful race commentator, several local DJs spinning energizing tunes, and a track-side Red Truck beverage garden inches away from it all!
Admission is $2 at the door, but come early as the seats fill quickly and you wont want to miss a minute!
The Maydays Track Challenge will also host the BVC Kiddie Kilo on Saturday morning, starting at 10am. All kids 10 and under are invited to come out for some FREE fun on a bike racing track. Kids can bring whatever bike they have, whether it is a tricycle, BMX, mountain bike or pink cruiser with tassels, but don't forget the helmet as that is mandatory to be part of the event. Check out the race website for more information.
Kids and parents are then encouraged to stick around, watch the racing, talk with the riders, and enjoy the infield expo featuring local businesses, credit unions, cycling associations, and other cycling resources.
More information is available at www.burnabyvelodrome.ca. Mark it on your calendar, come on out, and cheer for your local favorites!
The Burnaby Velodrome Club is a non-profit sports organization, focused on the operation of the Burnaby Velodrome and responsible for organizing 20 week night races, 2 weekend 3 Day races, an Internationally recognized Six Day race, and the Canadian National Track Championships in 2008.
