Atlantic National Cycling Centre Announces Athlete & Coach Programs

The National Cycling Centre Atlantic Canada is pleased to announce both the Athlete Selection Program criteria, giving athletes the opportunity to compete in high level races outside and with the region, and the Atlantic Coaching Experience program, an opportunity for Atlantic area coaches to gain experience coaching athletes at these same events.

Atlantic Canada's Selection program is a key element for the development of our cyclists. The program is co-ordinated by the Head Coach of the Centre. Riders chosen for selection projects will attend major events to give an opportunity to the athlete to further develop according to his or her personal goals and the Long Term Athletes Development Model of the Canadian Cycling Association. Its primary objective, in co-operation with its four provincial partners, is to ensure Atlantic Canada's deserving cyclists have the opportunity to develop and to demonstrate their potential during high level events.

This program will be on an invitational basis and must correspond to the deserving athlete's realistic goals. The opportunity to preserve or improve an athlete's Gold (A or B), Silver, Bronze, and/or Provincial ranking of the Centre's Elite program must also be taken into consideration.

In order to assist coaching development in the sport of cycling in Atlantic Canada, the National Cycling Centre - Atlantic Canada, in partnership with the four Atlantic provinces cycling organizations is happy to bring back its Atlantic Coaching Experience Program. The Atlantic Cycling Centre will accept the candidates for projects. The National Cycling Centre - Atlantic Canada will proceed with the selection of coaches for each of its team projects. The selection criteria will be based on coaching experience, the development, the implication, and the NCCP level and objectives of the person making the application. All expenses incurred by the participants to this program will be under the responsibility of the participant (or his/her provincial organization).

More information can be obtained by contacting the National Cycling Centre - Atlantic Canada at 506-877-7809 or AtlanticCyclingCentre.com.
