Ontario's best track cyclists will be converging on the Forest City Velodrome this weekend, to compete in the 2008 Ontario Track Championships. Events kick off at 5pm on Saturday May 31st.

Track racing has seen a surge in Canada in the last 3 years, many of the new young faces will be taking to the boards to test their fitness in preparation for Track Nationals in Burnaby this August. The Development of riders at the FCV has accelerated the number of Women and Cadet riders in the field for the weekend.

Some of the incentives for the racers include a $250 prize pool put up by the Velodrome for Classes of 10+ starting the Omnium on Sunday. Another $50 has been posted for a rider winning all 5 events during the day on Sunday.

Cadets and Juniors are also looking to be carded by the province in 2009 based on performances this weekend, add to this an all expenses paid trip to Manchester for the October round of the Revolution Professional Track Series, the racing will be hot and heavy.

The Junior Sprinters and Endurance athletes will be attempting to set standards for the pool of riders being considered for the Canadian Junior Team going to the Junior World Track Championships in July.

Over 30 riders have entered the Madison events on Saturday night which means there will be an "A" (Elite) Madison, plus a "B" Madison Championship.

The Sprinters will take to the FCV at 5pm for sprint and Kierin Qualifying with the Rounds of the sprint tournament beginning at 6pm. There will be over 5 hours of racing on Saturday night to keep the spectators on the edge of their seat. Racing on Sunday begins at 9am with the 5 event Omnium. Racing will continue throughout the day, with an awards presentation planned for just after 5pm on Sunday afternoon.

Adult admission is $10, Seniors only $5, Kids are always "FREE". You will not want to miss the excitement this weekend at the FCV.
