Mike's Bike Shop Cup Week 10 Aug 5th, Dieppe NB

The Mike's Bike Shop Cup series held the first criterium race of the series on Tuesday in Moncton. After 45 minutes of racing around the 1 km circuit the finish came down to a sprint between young guns Jean Richard Cormier and Stuart Wight with Cormier taking the win. Once the handicap was applied the winner for the night was Pablo Vergera. Series leader Derrick Keith continues to hold a substantial lead over the other 44 riders in the series. Keith has been moved up from a D handicap given to new riders all the way to an A rating but will be hard to displace given his 195 point lead and his consistent performance from week to week.

The Mike's Bike Shop Cup is a series of weekly races held on Tuesdays nights at 6:30pm. The series also includes BMX and cyclocross events to be held later in the summer and fall. The overall winner of the series will pick a charitable organization to which a donation from the registration proceeds will be made.

The series continues with the second of three criterium races on August 12. Race details and directions are available on the Atlantic Cycling Centre website. Go to www.AtlanticCyclingCentre.com for more information.

Speed Warp Cycling Race August 2/3, Dieppe NB

Mike's Bike Shop Cycling Club and the Atlantic Cycling Centre, Dieppe co-hosted the Speed Warp Prologue and Road Race on Aug 2-3. The prologue, originally scheduled for the Caisse populaire Dieppe Velodrome had to be rescheduled for the road due to wet conditions on the velodrome. Fastest time for the day in the prologue went to 16 year old Stuart Wight riding for Mike's Bike Shop Cycling Club. Prologue times were then used to seed the riders into two groups rather than the usual age and gender based race categories in an experimental grouping designed to make for more exciting racing.

Aug 3 the two road groups started their 40 km race on the hilly Pre d'en Haut circuit. In the A group the winner of the day was Stuart Wight of Mike's Bike Shop Cycling Club, followed in second place by Adam Douthwright of the Radical Edge Cycling Club and third place was taken by Jean Richard Cormier also riding for Mike's Bike Shop Cycling Club. In the B group the race was won by another up and coming 16 year old - Ryan S MacDonald of Pictou County Cycling Club followed by Todd Mackenzie, independent rider from PEI and third place was taken by Jean Leger of the Mike's Bike Shop Cycling Club.
