Rocky Mountain Bicycles donated a custom painted pink road bike to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Cyclist Lance Armstrong made his fifth appearance in the Calgary area on Friday along with Alison Sydor and the very special carbon fibre 2009 Rocky Mountain Solo RSL90.

Their efforts were well rewarded as the custom pink Rocky Mountain road bike raised a whopping $35,000 at auction.

Alison Sydor came to the Rocky Mountain Team with the idea a few months ago, and thanks to the help of Patrick Leclerc and the graphics department her idea came to fruition.

Alison's former coach and mentor Karen Strong celebrated a year of being cancer-free by cycling with four of her proteges. Karen rode with four "girls" she once coached - Alison Sydor, Kelly Anne Erdman, Maria Hawkins and Sara Neil - all of whom have rallied around her since she was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer in June 2007

"It's not often in your life that you will meet someone who will do everything to help you do your best," says Sydor, who is originally from Alberta but now lives in Vancouver.
