2008 - 2009 Memberships

It will soon be time for most of us to renew our memberships. Please keep in mind>/u> that the Forest City Velodrome is a not-for-profit organization, operated by volunteers. We rely on membership fees and donations to pay the rent, keep the lights on, and maintain the heat at 14 - 15 degrees during the winter.

Though our costs have increased, we are hoping to offset them with growth in membership over the coming year, so there will be no change to our 2008 - 2009 membership fees -- less than $40/month for 12 months of riding for full members.

In addition to your own riding time, your membership or donation will help us offer the following benefits to all our riders over the coming year:

• Expanded programming for the winter riding season
• Low cost introduction to cycling for our Velo-Kids programs
• Low cost "out of region" memberships
• Low cost "Track 1" introductory sessions for potential members
• Low cost youth and student fees to help keep the sport growing
• Women's camps to bring more women into the sport
• Saturday afternoon youth training sessions
• Sunday openings for sport and recreational riding
• London Track League Time Trial series
• University Challenge Series of Time Trials
• Fitness monitoring equipment for FCV members and Racers:
Renew your membership or make a donation to the FCV today.

My Laps

New To the FCV - Electronic Fitness and Monitoring System

We now have an electronic fitness and monitoring system available at the FCV. You can get each of your lap times down to 1/1000 of a second with a transponder chip. See your fastest lap and how many laps you have completed in a session. You can track your fitness online from our site.... (mylaps.com button)

Transponders are $50 for those holding full club memberships and $100 for others. Those who race will require a transponder. Transponder rentals are $20/night. If you purchase one, you own it for life.

Our electronic fitness and timing system is from AMB. The system includes free online review of your times either from this page or directly from www.mylaps.com.

Recruiting Youth

One of the mandates for our Not For Profit Organization is to continue to recruit youth to the FCV, and we have integrated this into everything we do at the Velodrome.

What started as a plan to attract hockey and speed skaters to the Velodrome, quickly expanding to going after to Youth Athletes from all sports...Some may call it poaching, we call it the Active Recruitment.

Posters have be produced to try to attract new riders, 13 to 19 years old to the Velodrome. The Youth Sessions begin every Saturday afternoon at 3 pm. At 4 pm the riders can take part in a Skills & Drills Program that will raise the level of our youngest riders to bring them into the FCV regular riding programs. If you know of athletes who are 19 years old or younger, please sent them to our 3 pm program on Saturdays.

Team Kamikaze

Beginning in October, year #2 of the FCV Elite Women's Development Program will get underway. Bringing women to the Velodrome was a huge undertaking for everyone.

In 2008, the FCV activity advertised for young women to get involved with our devel0pment program, and Team Kamikaze was born.

6 Elite Women came out of the 1st year and we are looking to double the number going into 2009. Riders are coming from across Ontario.

The process is a long one, from the introduction to track riding to bi-weekly sessions to a very intensive training camp series to upgrade rider skills.

Thanks to Lorne Falkenstein for organizing and recruiting many of the women from other sports in and around London.

3 camps are on the FCV site now for the continuation and drive for 2009 and doubling the roster. We look forward to seeing many new faces in the coming months.

Anyone can get involved with the program, as the OCA & CCA have categories for Junior, Elite and Master Women.

The 3 pm Saturday afternoon's is the session to direct possible candidates to attend. You can also contact the FCV at info@ForestCityVelodrome.ca.
