Posted by Editoress on 02/1/09

Another cold morning in Hoogerheide, Netherlands. Huge crowds have been arriving all morning by the busload.

lap 1 At the gun Katie Compton attacked and quickly went away forcing the rest of the field to chase her. At the end of the first lap Comptons gap is already substantial. Initially a large chase group of 11 including Wendy Simms had her in their sights, but Compton has continued to power away. 3 chasers Hanka Kupfernagel, Christel Ferrier-Bruneau and Marianne Vos separated to chase Compton whose gap had gotten as high as 12 seconds.
