Paris-Ancaster Teams up with The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario!
Press release

The organizers of Canada's biggest bike race are pleased to announce the addition of a new charity partner to the Paris to Ancaster race. The 16th edition of the race, on Sunday April 19, will once again feature a mix of rail trails, farm lanes, single track and dirt roads designed for both casual and Olympic caliber cyclists. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario will be the beneficiary of a new category of competition at Canada's spring cycling classic as part of the "Fit for Heart" campaign. "Since February is Heart Month, we are excited to launch this new initiative, and we look forward to working with the race organizers and riders to raise funds to help eliminate Heart Disease and Stroke" said Stephanie McAulay, Area Coordinator at the Hamilton office of Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

The Heart & Stroke Corporate Challenge (35km) is your chance to gather coworkers, friends and relatives for a unique day of fun and fundraising to benefit the The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Teams of six riders will complete the 35km route from St.George to Ancaster. The best team will be determined by the total time of all six team members after bonus time is subtracted. 30 seconds in bonus will be deducted from the teams' total time for every $100 raised in pledges. Individual riders, not participating in the team event are also invited to raise pledges to help eliminate heart disease and stroke in Canada.

Other news!

Three Waves For The Start Of The 60km Race In order to reduce on course congestion the 2009 Paris to Ancaster 60km race will now start in three waves, rather than the traditional two. Qualification for the first wave will be the same as in previous years. The first wave will be limited to riders holding an annual racing licence from CCA, USAC or other UCI federation Or having finished in the top 250 racers in the 2008 Paris to Ancaster. The second wave will be limited to 400 riders, and is self seeded for riders anticipating a sub three hour finish time. Register early if you feel this is the place for you! The third wave is for riders who anticipate a finish time of greater than 3 hours and all riders not qualifying for the first wave and registering after the second wave is full. By being honest with your predicted finish time, all participants will have a more enjoyable race day experience. The St.George to Ancaster 35km race will remain a single wave mass start.
