After successful Beijing Games, the Canadian para-cycling team is back on the road training for the 2009 season. A total of 9 riders are currently in Clermont, Florida to start their preparation for the season. For most of them, the racing season will start in May.
Riders present at the camp:
• Mark Beggs
• Shauna Whyte
• Braydon MacDougall
• Jean Quevillon
• Mark Breton
• Meyrick Jones
• Eric Bourgault
• Devon Smibert
• Brian Cowie
In addition to riding and building up fitness, they will participate in information sessions, bike measurement, skills development, equipment testing, etc.
They will benefit from the support of seven staff members to help the para-athletes in the best way possible: Luc Arseneau, Jayson Gillespie, Sébastien Travers (coaches), Nena Kennedy (soigneur), Nathan St-Onge, Andrew Scott (mechanics) and Catherine Naulleau (nutritionist). Newly appointed CCA Chief Technical Officer Jacques Landry will also make the trip down to talk with the athletes and staff regarding the long term planning for 2012.
"This camp is a perfect opportunity to start the next quad to London. We're introducing some new stuff to the program and I'm sure it'll pay off in 2012," commented veteran Brian Cowie.
The camp begins on March 31st.
