Escape Velocity's Spring Series 2009 presented by dEVo Cycling continued on Saturday, March 28 with a second River Road course in three weeks.  The ominous weather forecasts that did not disappoint, with rain and cold temperatures dominating the day.  However this did not stop over 110 racers from battling over four groups on the predominantly flat parcours.

The B, C, and Novice groups all ended in bunch sprints with Adam Smith of John Henry Bikes, Strongman Fergus Lavelle of dEVo Powerbar, and Troy Neale winning their respective categories.  The A group was aminated by a long break that went the distance, composed of Mike Sidic (Garneau Evolution), Marcel Aarden (H&R Block Kona), and a returning Marsh Cooper along with teammate Jamie Sparling (Trek Red Truck p/b Mosaic Homes).  The break quickly built up a two minute lead, with Sparling attacking with 5 to go, taking the win solo, followed by a chasing Sidic for second.  Jack Okuniewicz (Glotman Simpson)narrowly held off a charging guy Biggar (Garneau Evolution), with Rory McAdams (Glotman Simpson) rounding out the top five.

Sunday forecasts look fantastic in comparison, with balmy temperatures and sun for the challenging Bradner course.  Thanks to Spring Series sponsors Louis Garneau, Powerbar, La Bicicletta Pro Shop Vancouver, Wenting's Cycle and Mountain Shop, Back2Health Chiropractic, and Peak Centre for Human Performance.
