April 1/09 14:34 pm - Wooles Will Not Be New National Track Coach

Posted by Editor on 04/1/09

Early this morning, Richard Wooles sent out a broadcast e-mail to athletes and other members of the cycling community that he would not be taking the position of National Track Coach with the CCA after a six month stint that included managing the Canadian team at the recent Track Worlds, where two silver medals were won. Wooles also stated that he will not be in Los Angeles for the upcoming Pan Am Track trials.

I’m sorry to let you know that I will not be in Los Angeles for the Trials, and as of April 1st I will no longer be contracted by the CCA as National Track Coach. Unfortunately, we are unable to carry on with my existing contract, and the CCA will be advertising to fill the post.

I do hope at some point that I can return to the Track program, as I would like to continue the work that has been started in rebuilding our Track program.

We spoke with Richard this morning from his home in B.C., where he said that it basically came down to an inability to reconcile his plans for the track program with those of the CCA.

CCA Chief Technical Officer Jacques Landry agrees with that assessment, and says that an announcement of a competition for the position will be posted soon.
