May 30/09 16:52 pm - Toronto Criterium: report and photos

Friday night, the second edition of the St Lawrence Market Criterium took place in the heart of Toronto.  Held in conjunction with Bike Week, the main Pro / 1-2 Men's event attracted 101 riders to the start line for a timed 90 minutes of racing, followed by three final laps of the circuit.

Team Planet Energy were the clear favourites, and they did not disappoint, with local rider Andrew Randell lapping the field to take the win, and team mate Ryan Roth winning the field sprint for second.  Ryan Nye took third.  The weather was initially sunny and warm, with large crowds filling the cafe and restaurant patios along the course.  However, strong winds blew in black clouds and heavy rain for the final 30 minutes of racing, which dispersed the crowds, and probably helped Randell finally lap the field after the peloton slowed down on the slippery pavement.
