Mississauga Midweek Crit Report for June 9th

Mid June and still cold.

Lots of tired legs from this past weekend of stage racing.

The early B race saw Dawid Kurzawinski, riding for Kursawinski Coach, winning, for the third week in a row (time to stop racing the B race, Dawid) and 2nd place was ZM Cycle and Fitness Cycling Club's own Ziggy Martuzalski.

In the (later) A race, it was Jet Fuel Coffee's Peter Morse taking the victory after an escape with just  3 laps to go. The camera shows 2nd place going to Ed Cavanagh of the Healing Cycle Bike Club.

Check here for updates and videos of both finishes

Sandy McDonald won the Queen of Spring trophy, Tuesday night and Pat Ferris was the King of Spring. Both were repeat winners in a close race in their respective classes in this 40 km Montney road race.

What a difference a year makes. Last years version was done in freezing temperatures and slow times with riders bundled up against a late winter.

This year’s race was under marvelous warm and sunny conditions for the 18 race starters. Gord Harris hammered off the neutral gaining a small lead that he held to the Upper Pine School turn. The chasers caught him and stayed together until the 35 km mark with Gord Harris, Pat Ferris, Bob Andrews, Gary Hilderman and Roger St. Jean keeping the pace high.

After a couple of attempts, Pat Ferris finally broke away on the final long hill at the 35 km to hold a narrow lead to the finish line to win with 1:13:07 hours. Gary Hilderman held off Roger St. Jean for second place, two seconds later. Bob Andrews out dueled with ‘The Hammer’ for fourth at 1:13:36. Cam Chiorando was 6th at 1:16:37.

Sandy McDonald held off Barb Polehoykie by 2 seconds to win the Queen of Spring at 1:17:09.

Sam Keats came in at 1:17:31, Kathryn Fairweather 1:17:42, Melanie edged out Ken Nix for 1:22:28, Kevin Fell 1:29:37, Adam Currie 1:34:12 and Dean Lowry after a flat tire had 1:41:33.

Larry Joice had 53:17 and Brandon Joice 53:20 for the 23 km event.
